Talk Groups and online offers

Flexible and free of charge: visit conversation groups in Hamburg or use online offers to learn German.

Talk Groups

If you like to practice speaking German and are not afraid to meet new people and learn about their cultures, talk groups are the ideal opportunity to solidify your German skills.

In Hamburg you can take part in several free of charge talk groups, for example “Sprache im Alltag“ or DIALOG IN DEUTSCH at the Buecherhallen (public libraries).

 

DIALOG IN DEUTSCH (lit.: Dialog in German)

Speak German in a group under the guidance of a volunteer facilitator, many groups in many book halls, every week, free of charge and without registration. There are also many online groups. You can find all the groups here.

„Sprache im Alltag“ (lit.: Language in everyday life)

"Sprache im Alltag" is a project of Sprachbrücke-Hamburg e.V. and takes place throughout the entire city of Hamburg. Conversation topics change monthly and are adapted to the needs and wishes of the participants. More information and dates can be found at: http://www.sprachbruecke-hamburg.de

Whether or not you have already completed a German language course, various online offers can help you to improve your German language skills.

 

Offers from the German Adult Education Association

The internet portal „Ich will Deutsch lernen“ provides exercises for listening, speaking, reading and writing. The platform, created by the German Adult Education Association, includes a German course with digital learning materials, which corresponds to integration course curricula. Registration is required, use is free of charge.

 

“Einstieg Deutsch“ App

This learning programme for beginners is self-explanatory and easy to use. Being designed for refugees in particular, the app's focus lies on the immediate use of language in typical everyday situations. The app offers full translations in ten languages and can also be used offline.

The download is available for the operating systems iOS or Android.

 

Offers from the Goethe Institute

At the Goethe-Institut, you will find a variety of free courses to expand your knowledge of German: From apps with learning material to videos, podcasts and games, as well as social media and community programmes. Get started and go to "Kostenlos Deutsch üben".

Deutsche Welle is a state-owned radio and television broadcasting corporation for people abroad. At the Deutsche Welle website, you can find out more about the latest news from Germany and the world. With many, partly interactive contents, you can practice and expand your German skills according to your level of knowledge: The placement test, for which you can register for free, helps you to find out your current language level.
