Numerous counselling centres in Hamburg offer parents and children a wide range of support for problems relating to child-rearing and family life.
Municipal institutions and independent organisations advise, assist and support families during pregnancy, after childbirth or with parenting issues and conflicts.

Mother advice centres ('Mütterberatungsstellen')
The staff at mother advice centres advise parents of babies and young children during consultation hours, home visits, over the telephone, in courses and in individual consultations.
Family teams ('Familienteams')
The family teams support parents who feel overwhelmed during pregnancy or in everyday life with their newborn baby.
Babylotsen Hamburg
The ‘Babylotsen Hamburg’ are the first point of contact for parents in maternity clinics and birthing centres when it comes to problems relating to pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period, and they arrange appropriate support services if necessary. Exchange with other parents
Parent-child centres ('Eltern-Kind-Zentren')
The parent-child centres in daycare centres are primarily meeting places for families with children under the age of three. However, they are generally open to all children who are not yet of school age and their parents, and offer a variety of events.
Children's and family centres ('Kinder- und Familienhilfezentren')
Children's and family centres offer support and advice for families as well as various events, courses and leisure activities for children, young people, adults and senior citizens.
Mothers' centres ('Mütterzentren')
Mothers' centres offer mothers with small children the opportunity to meet other women from the neighbourhood, make contacts and exchange experiences while their children are looked after in the centres.
Support for the upbringing of children
Parenting advice centres ('Familien- und Erziehungsberatungsstellen')
The parenting advice centres offer guidance and information sessions, crisis intervention for acute problems, short consultations and longer-term support. They also offer themed events and specialist advice.
Parents' helpline ('Elterntelefon')
The German Child Protection Association operates a free parents' helpline. Here, mothers and fathers have the opportunity to talk anonymously to competent counsellors about their questions, concerns and parenting problems.
bke parental counselling ('bke-Elternberatung')

General social services ('Allgemeiner Sozialer Dienst' (ASD))
The ASD advises parents on raising their children and provides information about suitable support services in the local area.

Volunteer family mentors ('Familienpatenschaften')
Volunteer family mentors offer practical support to parents and single parents who are overwhelmed, for example with household chores, dealing with authorities, parenting issues or finding their way around the neighbourhood.
