Residence Permit for Trainees
If you start vocational training in Germany, you will need a residence permit for the purpose of vocational training.
General information
A residence permit for the purpose of vocational training can be issued if you would like to complete vocational training or further training with a company or a school-based vocational training.
With a residence permit for the purpose of vocational training, you are allowed to work 20 hours per week additionally.

- Citizens of certain countries can apply for a residence permit after entering Germany. More on this in the article on visas
- Citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland enjoy unrestricted freedom of movement
Training contract including training programme (if applying for the first time) or current training confirmation (in case of extension)
Proof of sufficient German language skills (B1) by presenting a recognized certificate
Sufficient health insurance coverage
Proof of ability to cover the cost of living (min. 959,00€ net/1.033,31€ gross), alternatively submission of a declaration of commitment or a blocked account
